New Year's Day 2012

The Army accommodations are not the worst I've stayed in, but they probably are the worst senior officer accommodations. It's good to know they don't pamper their officers. The chow is good - good enough that I might have to lengthen tomorrow's run a bit to burn a few more calories.

The day started out interesting as I set out from Camp McCrady at 0740 to find Memorial Chapel on Fort Jackson to catch the 0800 Lutheran/Episcopalian service. I found Memorial Chapel, but no cars and no service listed for 0800. I drove around and found two other chapels, the first as vacant as Memorial and the second housing an 0800 Muslim service. But still no vehicles. Since I had a brief at 1100, visiting my friends at Holy Trinity was not an option this week. Fortunately there was a service back at our compound at 0900. The chaplain arrived promptly at 0900; the service started some time later. The chaplain being a Lutheran used most of the liturgy and read all three readings. It was a good day to begin the new year by hearing God's words of forgiveness spoken to me.
Today is the Feast Day celebrating the Circumcision and Name of Jesus, so let me close with the Collect of the Day: Lord, God, You made Your beloved Son, our Savior, subject to the Law and caused Him to shed His blood on our behalf. Grant us the true circumcision of the Spirit that our hearts may be pure from all sins; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You, one God, now and forever. Amen.
The Lord bless You. + TES
