The Faith of Manoah and His Wife

All my life I have heard of Samson. I have heard about the great things he did by the power of God. But I cannot recall any emphasis given to Samson's parents. Manoah and his wife, who is unnamed in Scripture, showed greater faith in what God would do, than I would say Samson did in his raucous life of self-centeredness.
Judges 13 is the text for my sermon tonight and I find the response that Manoah and his wife give the Angel of the Lord a much more faithful response than Abraham and Sarah's (last week's text) laughter.
"...teach us what to do with the child who will be born" (v.8). "Now when your words come true..." (v. 12) [emphasis mine in both]. Oh, for such a faith that trusts the word of God. If we all believed such, there would not be any disputes about, "We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life" (Rom. 6:4). Or, "Baptism, which now corresponds to this [Noah's salvation by the flood], now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 3:21). "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many" (Mark 14:24). Or even, "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven" Matt. 16:19).
"I believe; help my unbelief!" (Mark 9:24). O, Lord, help us believe.
